Share What We Have
By: Linda Doiron, 3rd VP-Communications
This morning I found a small card I tucked away years ago. It says:
“How do you say “thank you” for sunshine or health… for clear days or gentle rains… for happiness, joy, or love? You say it by sharing what you have, you say it by making the world a better place in which to live.” Thomas D. Willhite
We don’t always realize it, but we are teachers, every one of us. We may not be burdened any longer with 6:30 a.m. carpool headlights, warm milk after lunch duty, or late-night grading sessions.
These days our “classroom” is dusty, but not from chalk, and our lessons don’t begin after the bell. Instead, our moments in the garden are when teaching happens naturally. We take what we’ve been given- the sunshine, soil, seeds, and knowledge, and we make something from it. Not for us alone, but for the next set of hands that will tend to it.
I think that’s what our Garden Club of Georgia does best across our local clubs, districts, and councils. A member is always teaching, and a new member is always learning, a young member is discovering, and an older member is smiling. These small acts, whether in a garden, on a tour, at a workshop or a meeting, are how we share what we have, and the moments are worth celebrating.
This is the essence of our social media initiative. It is a call to share your photos of garden beauty and conservation. Snap a picture and tell your story from wherever or however you are inspired. You can send it to our social media team at GCGsocialmediastars@gmail.com. Every image and every story become another way of saying thank you to one another. Our future members are just beginning to know about the Garden Club of Georgia growing together because we have what it takes to make the world as Mr. Willhite wrote “a better place in which to live.”
